Childhood brands shape our retail perspective by connecting products with memories, traditions, and trust. When retail execution keeps those products available, visible, and easy to find, it helps preserve the emotional bonds that influence how shoppers recognize brands, navigate stores, and make purchasing decisions across generations.
Growing up in Honduras, certain brands were simply part of everyday life.
They were in our kitchens, at family gatherings, and in the meals we shared. Some were ingredients used in recipes passed down through generations. Others were products we always had at home. I never thought about how they got there; they were simply familiar, trusted, and part of our routines.
And while not all of these brands originated in Latin America, they became part of our lives through the products we grew up with, the memories we made, and the traditions we shared. To me, what makes a brand feel familiar isn’t necessarily where it comes from, but the place it holds in our everyday experiences.
Today, working at Survey, I get to see some of those same brands from a completely different perspective.
And that’s something I find pretty special.
Which Brands Feel Like Home?
In many Latin American households, certain products become part of family traditions. We grow up seeing our parents and grandparents buy them, and without even realizing it, we often continue choosing those same products as adults.
For me, it’s not always about the product itself. It’s about what it reminds me of.
Several products bring back those memories for me.
Each one connects an everyday shopping experience with food, family, and tradition.
These are products that many of us grew up seeing at neighborhood stores, supermarkets, and in our own homes. And while each country and family has its own favorites, there’s something special about recognizing those familiar products years later.
And that’s what I find so interesting. A product that might seem ordinary on a grocery shelf can carry years of memories, family traditions, and a sense of home.
How Does Retail Execution Bring Familiar Brands to the Shelf?
One of the things I appreciate most about working at Survey is recognizing brands that have been part of my life long before I started working in the retail industry.
Growing up, I never really thought about what it took for those products to make it onto store shelves. They were simply there, part of our grocery trips, family recipes, and everyday routines.
Today, working behind the scenes in retail, I have a completely different appreciation for what goes into making those products available to shoppers.
I’ve learned that a great shopping experience depends on far more than what shoppers see when they enter a store. Retail execution teams work behind the scenes to keep products available and properly stocked. They also build displays correctly and make products easy to find. Together, these efforts help brands maintain a consistent presence across retail shelves.
At Survey, I get to see how our teams help brands address those challenges across thousands of retail locations . And it’s especially meaningful when I recognize a brand that I grew up seeing in my own home.
It’s a reminder that behind every product on a shelf, there’s a lot of work happening to make sure it gets there.
Why Do Certain Products Become Part of Family Traditions?
One thing I’ve come to appreciate is how products can connect people across cultures and generations.
Growing up in Honduras gave me my own traditions and experiences, but Hispanic culture is incredibly diverse. Every country, family, and household has its own recipes, celebrations, favorite products, and shopping habits. That diversity is an important reminder that Hispanic consumers cannot be understood as a single, uniform audience.
What feels familiar to me might be completely different from what someone growing up in Mexico, Nicaragua, El Salvador or Colombia remembers.
And that’s part of what makes Hispanic heritage so special.
Despite those differences, many of us share the experience of connecting certain products with the people and places we love.
For brands, those connections are meaningful. They’re built over time, through everyday experiences, trust, and familiarity.
And while we often talk about retail in terms of availability, visibility, and execution, it’s worth remembering that the products we’re helping bring to shelves can mean something different to every shopper.

How Does Survey Help Brands Show Up for Shoppers?
Working in sales enablement and marketing at Survey has allowed me to see the retail industry from a perspective I never expected.
I spend a lot of my time helping tell the stories behind the work our teams do, whether that’s improving product availability, supporting merchandising programs, or highlighting how brands overcome challenges in stores.
But sometimes, the most interesting connection is a personal one.
Seeing a familiar brand in a client presentation or learning about the work happening in stores reminds me of the products I grew up with.
It’s a full-circle moment, going from being a shopper who never thought twice about how a product reached the shelf to being part of a team that helps brands show up for shoppers every day.
And that’s something I’m grateful to experience.
Celebrating Hispanic Heritage and Global Diversity
Hispanic Heritage Month and Global Diversity Awareness Month offer an opportunity to celebrate the cultures, traditions, experiences, and perspectives that shape who we are. Sharing our individual stories can deepen understanding. It can also create a stronger sense of connection and belonging.
For me, it’s also an opportunity to reflect on how my background influences the way I see my work today.
The brands we grow up with can become part of our memories, our traditions, and our connection to home. And sometimes, our careers give us the chance to see those familiar things in a completely new way.
I’m proud to bring my perspective as someone who grew up in Honduras to the work I do at Survey, and I appreciate being part of a team where different backgrounds and experiences can bring new perspectives to the table.
Because at the end of the day, retail is about more than products on shelves. It is about helping brands remain available, visible, and easy to find for the shoppers who have made those products part of their lives.
Behind every product, there’s a story. And sometimes, that story feels a little like home.
